Cruising in Hawaii is though. No doubt about it. Not impossible, just challenging. There are few good anchorages and even less slips in Harbors unless you’ve been on the waiting list for 20 years. We often laugh about the ease of getting a slip in Canada or Mexico. In Hawaii you can beg.....but .. more often then not you will be turned down.
There are exceptions. Ko’olina on Oahu always has slips but pricey and out of the way unless your traveling on that side of the chain. Always keep an eye and ear on the forecast. Trade winds are prevalent and strong. Swells are constant and kick up with not much notice. Even the experienced captains get caught of guard sometimes, so be careful.
